DOG FRIENDLY HIKES IN THE COACHELLA VALLEY AREA

Since we all like to take our pets with us when we vacation, or where we live,  it is nice to know some dog friendly walks we can go on with them.

Close to Palm Desert is the Cross Hike, it is just up Hwy 74 from Homme Park off Thrush Street.  This 3 mile round trip hike is a local favorite than never disappoints. It climbs 600 ft. to a lit cross with views at the top to Santa Rosa Mountains and the Coachella Valley.

Flag Mountain Hike is in Desert Hot Springs  This is a 6 mile round trip hike and is strenuous enough to give you and your favorite friend a good work out!  Sunsets are beautiful from here!

White Water Preserve Hike.  It is located at the Whitewater canyon road just off of Hwy 10 (take exit 114) about 15 miles from Palm Springs. It is 2.851 acres surrounded by the San Gorgonio wilderness, and includes year round white water river!  There is the Canyon View Loup trail, with excellent views of the canyon and surrounding mountains.  It leaves right from the Whtewater Ranger Station and follows a segment of the Pacific Crest Trail heading south.  If you want a longer hike you can connect with the Pacific Crest National Scenic trail.

Mission Creek Preserve is just adjacent to White Water Preserve and is managed by the same Conservatory.  Also a beautiful paw-friendly hike comprising about 4700 acres wuth some unusual stone huts.  This is a very pretty area!

Araby Trail located just above Bob Hopes’s old house!  The hike is not all dog friendly and you will see the signs that tell you the four footed friends can’t go any further.  About 1 ½ miles you can go, but gives you great views of Bob’s home.  The hike actually starts by a private trailer park just off of East Palm Canyon Drive.

Mecca Hills  This is a very remote area and would not recommend going except in a group.  The dogs cannot do the ladder part of this hike but can walk all through the slot canyons and wind up to the ridge.  Take lots of water, as you are very isolated!  It is located past Indio and in Mecca.
